2013 Favourites // Bastille, Interview & Live Review
“Even
being number two, or three or four or five is totally unbelievable. We
literally can’t believe it, it’s the weirdest thing in the world.” Dan Smith,
Bastille
Next up in our look back over 2013 are Brit favourites- Bastille. It’s early evening on Sunday 10th
March and Bastille’s debut album “Bad Blood”, after fending off the likes of
Emeli Sande, has just been announced as scoring the prestigious number one spot
in the Official Top 40 Chart. The band’s recent success may have come as a
surprise to some, however a huge
underground following has made Bastille the UK’s worst kept secret; word of mouth has seen
their fan base grow and grow even before the album release, and quite rightly
so.
Est.1987 caught up with Dan and Kyle
at their sold out Leeds show…

their first festival, bagging a top 40 single and playing main stage at Reading and Leeds, Don Broco’s 2013 hasn’t been half bad. The Bedford four-piece is

“These days, everybody is in a band,” sighs Save Your Breath guitarist, Tom. “Every aspect of it is so readily available. There’s definitely a fear of getting lost. We want to be a band that people can continue to care about and relate to.”
New single, ‘Whole’, does exactly that, as bassist, Ben, explains. “It’s about my own particular way of dealing with things and the realisation that without being able to let go of the past, my issues will forever be my undoing. The song is an admission to my own weaknesses and my inability to take my own advice. Knowing what you need to do and seeing it through are two very separate things in my experience.”
