Slam Dunk - 10 YEARS YOUNG...

After our weekend away in Brigton for TGE, Est.1987 is truly in Festival mode and has kicked off the season in style! Following on from our seaside excursion we will be keeping things a little closer to home this time and hitting up Slam Dunk Festival in Leeds this Bank Holiday weekend.

Where as TGE staggers the festival over 3 days, Slam Dunk packs an incredible 60 acts, on 7 stages over ONE DAY! Part 1 of the Slam Dunk Weekend takes place on Saturday as Slam Dunk North will be taking over the Leeds University Campus. Part 2 follows the day after as Slam Dunk South moves on to the University of Hertfordshire.

To mark the 10th anniversary of the first ever legendary Slam Dunk Event, the guys are bringing us something even bigger and better than before, admitting;  “it was important for us to have a line-up that truly represents the way the scene has evolved over the last 10 years.” Est.1987 is getting involved, bringing you an exclusive blog each day this week in the run up to the event.

So..first of all the introductions…who and what is Slam Dunk?
Back in 2001 Slam Dunk launched their first event; a weekly club night at one of Leeds best live venues, The Cockpit. Years of successful sold out club nights later and things were ready expand on a grand scale. In 2006 Slam Dunk took over Millennium Square in Leeds for one epic day and Slam Dunk Festival was born. 2007 came and Slam Dunk founded their independent record label. In the subsequent years Slam Dunk Festival has fully made its mark, now moving up to the Leeds Uni site and last year saw it’s first official event at Hatfield-site number 2.

Who can we see?
From Goldfinger to Less Than Jake, We Are The Ocean to Attack! Attack!, Slam Dunk has hand picked over 60 punk, ska, emo, and metal acts to guarantee that Slam Dunk 2011 is the best yet!

The full festival line-up looks a little something like this...
